About the event

What is a vessel? A ship? Yes, but it's also "a hollow container, especially one used to hold liquid, such as a bowl..." says the Oxford Dictionary.

Explore different hand building methods to create all types of beautiful, elegant, and functional vessels. Explore your imagination and create something into reality. Work with clay by learning either slab technique, coil techinique, pinch-pot technique, Kurinuki, hump and slump technique and more! Become familiar with clay and how it moves and bends to bring your vision to fruition.  Play around with texture, prints, and stamps, and learn to glaze your artwork. Thus, creating  seamless, well-crafted vessels made by you. Each vessel has a max height of 1 ft (12 inches). All projects are fired in a kiln on our premises, and you will be able to take your artwork home once fired.

Also, enjoy a cup of soothing tea, as the Teaching Artist will be serving tea blends from Strob Apothecary, where the Teaching Artist is an apprentice for Strob Apothecary in essential oil and herbal training.

Schedule:

  • Session 1: Building in Clay
  • Session 2: Building in Clay
  • Session 3: Glaze Ceramic Pieces
  • Session 4: Building in Clay
  • Session 5: Buidling in Clay

Class meets for 6 sessions for 2 hours each. Students will go home with a collection of ceramic pieces. Some projects may be interconnected, such as cups in one session and saucers in another. Some projects may be separate, such as bambo plant holders one session and a goblet for another session.

All materials and firing are included. Please wear comfortable clothes that you do not mind using for art and bring a small towel (optional). No previous experience required.
